What are the recommended Stelo iPhone settings?
Compatible smartphones sold separately. You can use the Stelo app on any Operating System (OS) that meets the minimum requirements. For Stelo app compatibility information, visit stelo.com/compatibility.
The Stelo app will operate according to your smartphone’s settings. For example, if your smartphone is set to silent, then your notifications won’t make a sound. However, some smartphone settings can prevent the Stelo app from working optimally. Learn more about the settings we recommend and how to check them.
The location of each setting may be different based on your iOS version. Please refer to your smartphone instructions for detailed information. Not sure which iOS version you’re on? Find your device’s iOS version within the about section of your smartphone’s settings.
Screen Time
The Screen Time features Downtime and App Limits options that can temporarily disable apps. If you set time limits for the Stelo app, you may not open the app or get biosensor readings outside of those specified time limits.
How to add Stelo to Allowed Apps
- Go to your iPhone’s Settings
- Tap Screen Time
- Turn off Downtime and App Limits, or add Stelo to the Always Allowed app list
Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode may prevent the Stelo app from running in the background when you don’t have the app open and displayed on your smartphone screen. When Low Power Mode is on, notifications may be delayed.
How to turn Low Power Mode off
- Go to your iPhone’s Settings
- Tap Battery
- Turn off Low Power Mode
Optimized Battery Charging
The optimized battery charging setting can cause apps to shut down during the time that the phone is charging. When the Stelo app is shut down, you won’t get any notifications.
How to turn Optimized Battery Charging off
- Go to your iPhone smartphone's settings
- Tap on Battery
- Tap on Battery Health
- Turn Optimized Battery Charging off
Device Bluetooth
Your Stelo app uses Bluetooth to connect with your biosensor. You must keep your smartphone’s Bluetooth turned on to get notifications and biosensor readings. It is also good practice to delete old Stelo biosensors from your device’s Bluetooth list.
Stelo biosensors connect, send data, and disconnect every 5 minutes. The pairing in Bluetooth for your current Stelo biosensor will likely say “not connected” and is expected.
How to turn Bluetooth on
- Go to iPhone Settings
- Find Bluetooth
- Turn it on
How to remove old biosensors from Bluetooth connections
Before inserting a new biosensor, remove old biosensors from your phone's list of Bluetooth connections. There may be more than one biosensor listed because your phone saves each biosensor as a new device in the Bluetooth connections list.
- Go to iPhone’s Settings > Bluetooth
- Find your used biosensor in the list of devices
- Bluetooth shows all biosensors as Not Connected
- All Stelo biosensor names start with DXCM
- Tap the "i" icon to see details about the connection
- Tap Forget This Device
Apple requires you to give the Stelo app permission to use Bluetooth. You must keep the Bluetooth Permission turned on for the Stelo app to work.
How to turn Bluetooth Permission on
- Go to Settings
- Tap on Stelo
- Turn Bluetooth on
Notifications Permission
Notifications let you get insights and important Stelo-related information on your smartphone. On iOS 15 and above, consider not adding Stelo to Scheduled Summary so you get your notifications as soon as possible.
How to turn Notifications on
- Go to your iPhone’s Settings
- Tap Stelo
- Tap Notifications
- Turn on Notifications
StandBy Mode
In iOS 17 and above, StandBy Mode may prevent you from receiving app notifications. To continue to receive notifications:
- Don’t use StandBy Mode, or
- Turn on Notifications for StandBy Mode
How do I turn on Notifications for StandBy Mode?
- Go to phone Settings
- Tap StandBy
- Under Notifications, turn on Show Notifications
Assistive Access Mode
In iOS 17 and above, Assistive Access Mode may impact the Stelo app’s performance. We do not recommend using Assistive Access Mode.
How do I turn off Assistive Access Mode?
- Triple-click the side button (on an iPhone with Face ID) or the Home button (for other iPhone models)
- Tap Exit Assistive Mode
- Enter the Assistive Access passcode
Reduce Interruptions Mode
Reduced Interruptions mode lets you allow notifications from apps you select, and blocks notifications from the rest.
How to receive notifications while in Reduce Interruptions Mode?
- Open phone Settings
- Find Focus setting
- Tap the plus icon at the top right corner
- Under Allowed Notifications add the Stelo app
Locked Apps
Locked Apps hides the content of notifications. To see the full notification, unlock your phone. Locked Apps was introduced in iOS 18.
How do you unlock your app?
- Long press on the Dexcom app
- Select Don’t require Face ID option.
Hidden Apps
Hidden Apps stops notifications and alerts. To get notifications and hear alerts, remove the app from Hidden Apps. Hidden Apps was introduced in iOS 18.
How to unhide your app?
- Find the Dexcom app in Hidden Apps folder
- Long press on the Stelo app
- Select Don’t require Face ID option
Note: Hidden Apps removes the app from the home screen, even if you take the app out of Hidden Apps. Follow your phone’s instructions to add it back.
